Scientific Advisors

The Advisory Board was founded in January 2019 with the ambition of strengthening PolarCool’s international network by linking leading experts in sports medicine and neurology as advisors to the company’s research activities. PolarCool’s scientific advisors will be important sources of knowledge and information for the company and the advisors will be consulted regularly on medical and scientific issues that arise in the business. Furthermore, the knowledge of the advisors will serve as an important factor  during the product development process to ensure that PolarCool’s products and services meet the required standards of the medical field.

 

Professor Niklas Marklund, MD, Ph.D
Scientific Advisor since 2019

Niklas Marklund, professor of neurosurgery at Lund University, and previously professor and researcher at the Department of Neuroscience, at Uppsala University, is one of the leading researchers in the field of traumatic brain injury and has in recent years focused  on the concussion field. Professor Marklund is currently engaged in studies of concussion in Swedish elite football and numerous studies of athletes with post-concussion syndrome. Professor Marklund has published more than 100 scientific articles and participated in several studies dealing with biomarkers in concussion.
Niklas Marklund has extensive experience of scientific studies with athletes and has for many years been engaged as a lecturer both nationally and internationally about concussion in sports.

 

Professor Emeritus Yelverton Tegner, MD
Scientific Advisor since 2019

Yelverton Tegner, MD, is Professor Emeritus in sports medicine and specialist in orthopedics. He has since the 1970’s conducted research in sports medicine and concussions in particular and is internationally renowned in the subject. Professor Tegner has served as team doctor in several sports organizations, including Luleå Hockey, the Swedish womens national football team, Plannja Basket, and Swedish womens national team in basketball. He was one of the initiators of the formation of the Swedish Ice Hockey Doctors Association.
