RETURN TO PLAY - STATUS 3 WEEKS AFTER HEAD TRAUMA

5 YEAR PUBLISHED CLINICAL RESULTS

A clinical study performed by Lund University in collaboration with Swedish Hockey League (SHL) and HockeyAllsvenskan, during 2016-2021 showed that athletes treated with PolarCap® System have an almost

80% reduced risk of long-term absence, a statistically significant effect.

HOW IT WORKS

Sports-related concussions are unique because physical activity can increase body and brain temperature up to 40°C. At this elevated temperature, the brains metabolism is increased. If a concussion is sustained during sports when an athlete has raised brain temperature and thus a raised energy demand, it can lead to exacerbated injury, and an increased risk of long-term problems

PolarCap® aims to reduce the metabolic demand in the brain, when a concussion occurs during sports. By lowering brain temperature rapidly through controlled cooling.

MISSION

Our mission is to enhance the safety of athletes by reducing the severity of head injuries through cooling. We protect athletes and sports.

THE PRODUCT

The PolarCap® System is a clinically proven technology for treating concussive and sub-concussive brain injury. It is intended to reduce exercise-induced elevated brain temperature to prevent and limit long-term cognitive impairment after brain trauma.

PolarCap® has the Medical Device class IIa for the EU and is CE marked.

I am grateful that through this collaboration we are given the opportunity to continue to include PolarCap® System in our routines for concussions management. PolarCap® System, whose positive effects have been further confirmed with the results from the follow-up study in Swedish ice hockey, will thus continue to be part of our routines for handling concussions.

After a successful trial of the PolarCap® System, I am encouraged by the systems benefits and effects on players suffering from concussion. I am grateful to Stade Français Paris for the opportunity to use the device long term and proud to be the first rugby organization in France to provide the PolarCap® System to its players

The potential for head cooling to aid players after a head injury in a rapid, actionable way, is extremely interesting to the Love of the Game team. I would have willingly used something like the this in my playing days.
